There has been quite a bit of discussion about Tim's appearance at TED - so, here's the video:
Obviously not a technical talk; nevertheless I was quite amused that neither OWL nor Ontologies were mentioned at all :)

Ok, so its a neat talk but I wish he would explain why "linked data" is so much better than plain traditional web documents. Its not more powerful because its linked but because computers can actually use the data.
The genomics example was a bit misleading too because that problem could be solved by a central database. The neat thing in the semantic web would not be that you could see all the relationships but that anyone could add to this database where you can see relationships.
I’m Valentin Zacharias, a Post-Doc researcher in Karlsruhe.
I work at the FZI and made my PhD in the group of
Prof. R. Studer at the institute AIFB at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
I studied computer science and psychology in Berlin and Massachussetts.
My research ranges from the verification and validation of knowledge based systems, over lighweight, low semantic and heuristic techniques for the semantic web to cloud computing and using modern technology for health care.
On this blog you find thoughts and links about developments in AI, the (Semantic) Web and sometimes Computer Science in general. On this blog I express my personal views, I do not speak for FZI or any institution!
