Nice presentation on the value and difficulties of having a common exchange language (for measurements in this case). Well presented, including such interesting things as: why the metric system is actually British, its relation to the search for an universal language and what was the first "metric car".

I’m Valentin Zacharias, a Post-Doc researcher in Karlsruhe.
I work at the FZI and made my PhD in the group of
Prof. R. Studer at the institute AIFB at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
I studied computer science and psychology in Berlin and Massachussetts.
My research ranges from the verification and validation of knowledge based systems, over lighweight, low semantic and heuristic techniques for the semantic web to cloud computing and using modern technology for health care.
